Institutional Information
The Africa Academy of Management (AFAM) was created in 2011, after several efforts since 2007. It is affiliated with Academy of Management since 2016.
As an independent Academy, in 2020 it has three hundred and twenty individual members, of which 98% are academics and 2% are practitioners. AFAM individual membership is global and most of them are in the management or business field and employed by business schools, universities or other educational institutions in Africa, Europe, North Africa, Asia, Australasia, the Caribbean, and South America
It also has ten institutional members from Africa: University of Pretoria and University of Witwatersrand in South Africa; University of the Niger Delta and Lagos Business School in Nigeria; University of Nairobi in Kenya; Makerere University in Uganda; Bot University of Botswana; University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia; Open University of Tanzania, and De Montfort University in UK.
In addition to biennial conferences (5 so far), AFAM has annual gatherings as part of our affiliation with AOM. The leadership team usually presides over the conference activities.
AFAM governance structure and succession are specified on AFAM website. The President, Dr Baniyelme Zoogah, works with the Vice President, Prof. Moses Acquaah and Treasurer, Prof. Eileen Kwesigah.
In addition to the website, AFAM regularly publishes a newsletter and provides a communication system which is used to interact with our members.
The chairs for membership and communication are Dr Judy Muthuri and Dr Nceku and Nyathi, respectively.
AFAM publishes a scientific journal, the Africa Journal of Management (AJOM), which was started in 2015, has a 2 ranking in the Academic Journal Guide (https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rajm20/current).
AFAM organizes workshops for students and junior faculty during and outside of conference events as indicated on our website. The next AFD workshop is planned for 2021 and the next biennial conference is planned for January 2022.
